The RICK electrical family dates back to 1942 when our ancestors served our country in the United States Navy as electrician's aboard Landing Ship Tank ships (LST's) during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and also at the Inchon landing during the Korean conflict.In 1945, the US Navy once again called upon our electrician ancestors to assist the citizens of Japan in rebuilding their electrical distribution systems due to the destruction from WWII. Our electrical ancestor history also includes family members for the training of Naval recruits to become electricians at the United States Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, IL, employment with the City of Chicago as Electricians, the electrical/installation of the King Tut display at the Chicago Field Museum, electrical maintenance at the Campbells Soup Co.,numerous ComEd utility engineering designs/inspections located throughout the Chicagoland area.
Our electrical background is also contributory to numerous telecom designs/installations which can be found in many Chicago building landmarks such as the: Sears Tower, John Hancock Building, Predential Building, Presidential Towers, Standard Oil Building, Merchandise Mart, Apparel Mart, Chicago E-911 Emergency Response Center, Midway Airport, US Cellular Fieldas well as numerous power plants located across the United States.

RICK Electrical Contractors, Inc., located in Sugar Grove, IL was incorporated on September 5, 2003. Ourelectrical & telecom contracting roots date back to 1987 when we provided CATV, electrical, low voltage, security, video & telecom solutions to custom home builders,home owners, commercial & industrial accounts in the southwest Chicagoland suburbs when we were known as: RICK Electrical Service Co. located in Westmont, IL. During the late 1980's, the majority of electrical contractors did not offer Emerging Technologies, Low Voltage or Telecommunications solutions to their customers. In 1987 our business focus was a little different from our competition, we were already providing Emerging Technology, Low Voltage and Telecommunications solutions to our customers as well as traditional high voltage electrical services.In 2012, we continue with offering our customers Solar Electrical and Electrical Vehicle Charging Station installations as new emerging technology advancements in our field.
During the late 1980's thru the early 1990's, we pre-wired numerous residential new construction homes, town homes and condominium developments throughout Aurora, Crestwood, Darien, Downers Grove, Libertyville, Lockport, Mokena, Naperville, Oak Forest, Orland Park, Tinley Park & Westmont, IL with Structured Cabling solutions when Structured Cabling was not even an industry standard at that time. Kevin - President & Supervising Electrician. Kevin has overall responsibilities for the corporation which include: sales, designs, engineering and operations for RICK Electrical Contractors, Inc. and RICK Electrical Controls. Kevin brings 35 years of construction, drafting, design, electrical, engineering, manufacturing and telecommunications experience to our customers. In the late 1970's, Kevin was employed as a Draftsman for the Joslyn Corp where he drafted manufacturing drawings for electrical pole-line hardware. He was also employed at Allis-Chalmers where he was an Electrical Designer for fork-lift truck schematic drawings & wiring harnesses. Kevin has held a Class "A" (Unlimited for Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Agricultural & Institutional classifications) Electrical Contractors license since 1987 in the State of Illinois and has been an electrician since the late 1970's while learning the trade from his father. Prior to forming RICK Electrical Contractors, Inc. and RICK Electrical Controls, Kevin was previously employed in the Nuclear Power Plant industry by some of the world's largest construction & engineering firms such as: Sargent & Lundy Engineers, Bechtel Power, Kaiser Engineers, Burns & Roe Engineering and Baldwin Construction. Kevin has traveled & lived across the United States while working at numerous Nuclear Power Plant construction sites as a Design Engineer and Field Installation Engineer. Many of Kevin's engineering designs can be found in operational nuclear & fossil power plants located throughout the states of Indiana, Illinois, Washington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and Texas. After the nuclear power plant construction industry dried up in the middle 1980's, Kevin was employed by Ameritech/SBC/AT&T and retired after a 22 year diverse telecom career where he held a variety of installation, technical,engineering,sales, operations & manager positions. Kevin specialized in PBX Design/Installation/Troubleshooting, Enhanced-911 Switching, Network Sales/Design for Voice/Data &IP Transport along with Managed Services for numerous global customers. Kevin is a former member of IBEW Local 134 located in Chicago, IL. Kevin is a two-time graduate from the DeVry Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Digital Electronics and a Certificate in Telecommunications Installation. Kevin is nearing completion of a Technical Management degree from DeVry University. Kevin completed his Certification in Construction Management from Northern Illinois University in 2003 where he was also employed as an Adjunct Faculty Electrical Instructor for 5 years where he taught Residential Electrical applications, electrical theory and the National Electrical Code to hundreds of Chicago area home builders that enrolled in his electrical class throughout the years. Kevin was also employed as an Adjunct Electrical Instructor at the University of Illinois in Naperville, IL. Kevin was an electronics instructor at Lincoln Technical College where he taught AC/DC electrical theory, residential electrical installation, circuit analysis, electronic components and component level troubleshooting/design. Kevin has previous employment as an Electrical Inspector/Electrical Plans Examiner for commercial customers in the Chicagoland area. Kevin is Certified as a Leviton Lighting Energy Solutions Provider. Kevin was previously licensed by the State of Illinois as a Home Inspector. Kevin has completed numerous continuing education classes and certifications in the construction, electrical, energy, solar& telecom industry. Kevin is the author of the "Qwik Code Series: Residential Electrical" reference guide. Kevin is the inventor & co-inventor of electrical control/electronic related products. Kevin is a volunteer for "Rebuilding Together Aurora" where he donates his electrical skills on various single dwelling home projects throughout Aurora, IL each spring. Kevin is the founder of Cabins, Waters & Woods, Inc. where he re-habbed all construction phases of single family cabins located in Central Wisconsin.
In February 2011, Kevin launched RICK Electrical Controls for the manufacturing, sales & installations of custom electrical control panels. Due to a personal need in Kevin's homes as well as a product void in the electrical industry, Kevin has taken his electronics, electrical, educational, telecom & manufacturing backgrounds to new levels by supplementing the electrical contracting business with the design, engineering and manufacturing of customized electrical control panels for various residential, commercial, industrial, renewable energy and electric vehicle applications. Kevin is responsible for the initial schematic drawings, electrical calculations, panel design/layouts, engineering, PC board layouts, proto-type fabrication and sales on all of our control panel models prior to the manufacturing phase. Azucena- Vice President & Secretary. Azucena is responsible for assisting with customer proposals, CAD designs, schematic drawings & engineering calculations for RICK Electrical Contractors and RICK Electrical Controls. Azucena has a Construction & Design Engineering background in the Nuclear Power Plant industry and was previously employed by Sargent & Lundy Engineers, Bechtel Power & General Electric as a Design Engineer. In addition, Azucena has a 20 year background in the Waste Water & Drinking Water industry where she held previous positions as a Chemist/Chemist Lab Supervisor for DuPage County and the City of Aurora, IL. Azucena is currently employed as a Field Engineer with the Environmental Protection Agency. Azucena holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Adamson University, Manila, Philippines. Azucena has completed continuing education classes in the Electrical, Chemical, Computer Science, HazMat& Instrumentation areas along with coursework towards an MBA degree.
Todd- Electrician and IT Support Engineer. Todd brings over 30 years of electrical and IT computer support/design background to our customers. Todd is proficient in conduit bending, device wiring, residential electrical remodeling applications, commercial/industrial applications, lighting design/layout, re-lamping, panel upgrades and electrical troubleshooting. In addition to his electrical skills, Todd has an extensive background in commercial & industrial Fire Alarm systems, IT Data Network design/support, Server Software programming, Access Control, Door Reader, Security Systems, Structured Cabling & Telecommunications systems. Todd was previously employed in the IT industry by Herman Miller, Inc. and the City of Aurora, IL Police Dept. where he held IT Support & Programming positions. Todd was also employed by Caterpillar. Todd has worked on various IT projects with NASA & Fermilab and has traveled extensively across the United States, Europe & Asiawhere he designed, installed & supported complex customer IT Data Networks. Todd is the founder & previous owner of SkogNet Internet, Inc. where his firm provided Internet services and customized web hosting/design to over 200 Chicagoland corporate customers. Todd is an inventor &holds a patent issued by the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Todd is also the co-inventor of 3 additional inventions within the electrical/electronics industry. Todd graduated with an Associate Degree in Electronics from Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, IL where he also assisted the faculty in the early developmental stages of research, design and assembly of proto-type robotics. Todd is proficient in the design, layoutand proto-type fabrication of Printed Circuit boards.Todd is Certified as a DC Solar Electric System Installer. Todd is a Certified Installer for Air Cooled Home and Commercial Liquid Cooled Standby Generators by Eaton Cutler-Hammer. Todd is Certified as a Leviton Lighting Energy Solutions Provider. Todd has completed numerous continuing education classes in Electronics, Computers, Computer Software Programming & Networking. Toddholds a certification in welding. Todd is licensed by the FCC as an Amateur Radio Operator. Todd is also a CertifiedElectronics Technician for the repair of Lionel Train Sets. Todd is a 3 year employee of REC.
Jeremy - Journeyman Electrician. Jeremy is a part time electrician for REC and is a graduate journeyman electrician from IBEW Local 461 (Aurora, IL) where he served his electrical apprenticeship training. Jeremy brings 10 years of experience to REC as a journeyman electrician. Jeremy holds a Class "A" electrical license in the State of Illinois with residential, commercial & industrial classifications. Jeremy has personally been involved with the electrical construction of hundreds of new homes within the greater Fox Valley area. Jeremy is a 2 year employee with REC.
Ralph - Electrician. Ralph is our newest member to the expanding RICK Electrical Contractors team. Ralph is a graduate electrician from the electrical program at Everest College located in North Aurora, IL. In addition to Ralph's electrical construction & maintenance skills, he is also CPR, Lockout Tagout, OSHA and Ramset Certified. When not performing electrical work on our customer projects, Ralph is reviewing the National Electrical Code (NEC) to take his electrical licensing examination.
